Day 50 Swinging a Golf Club

I have to call it “swinging a club” because I am not sure if my actions at the driving range could be classified as golfing. Many years ago, I used to occasionally go golfing.  I have golf shoes and clubs, however I have not had time to play in years.  Maybe I was  “thinking big,” as Little Golden Books recommends, but I thought that I might try to start playing this sport again.

Day 49 Festival of Hope

Song-Mighty to Save

I have been to all kinds of rock concerts but I have never ventured to a Christian/rock concert.  On my way home from my Purdue visit, a last min text united me with some friends at the Festival of Hope. Little Golden books reminds us to “give thanks” and this was a great way to give thanks with music. There were groups from  the Charlie Daniels Band to Michael W. Smith (listen) and Billy Graham's son, Franklin Graham spoke.

Day 48 Rodeo

(Please Read Day 1  if this your first blog Visit)

Everything I Need to Know I Learned from a Little Golden Book  invites us to “play hard”. I think a Rodeo fits in that category.  I have always loved horses. I used to ride English saddle and I  have been to horse shows and polo matches but for this challenge I was  ready to “cross over the tracks”
and go western at the North Washington Rodeo.

Day 47 Chainsaw

Enjoying a bonfire with some friends gave me the opportunity, as  recommended by Little Golden Books,  to “learn something new.” In  my  new journey, striving to be self sufficient in all things is a continual goal and   so I jumped at the opportunity to learn how to cut up the wood and start my own fire!

Day 46 Fishing

I have never been one to go fishing.  Fishing  just seemed too much like a low energy sport and I am not good at waiting for something to happen. I am more  of a “make it happen” type of person. Little Golden Books reminds us to take a mental health day and since this a new journey- I tried fishing when I was in Columbus, Ohio.

Day 44, 45 Past Friendships/Columbus Ohio

Better to have a few close friends than a sea of others.

In Maslow's theory, establishing  deep satisfying interpersonal relationships with a few people is a trait of a self- actualized person.   There is something special when you have a  friend   from the past , who can fit right back into the present and continue into the future. I have that  in my friend Kellie from Columbus, Ohio.

Day 43, 44 OFF TO PURDUE/EMPTY NEST

Everything I Need to Know I learned from a Little Golden Book reminds us to, "love… and your ship will come in. As long as you do your life is bound to be Golden.” This is the weekend that my son starts his new chapter and his mom really starts hers. This was the weekend that  I moved my son into Purdue University in Indiana.

Day 41, 42 Taiwanese and Thai experience

Nickki Thai Kitchen /Jacket from Boutique Day 40

Everything I Need to Know I Learned from a Little Golden Book, invites us to experience some culture. I was able do a little of that with some authentic Taiwanese  food  at Everyday Day Noodle  in Squirrel Hill. Coincidentally two days later,  I found myself having Thai food at Nickki Thai Kitchen on the North Side of Pittsburgh.   Again this blog is  not going to turn into a  Trip Advisor food blog because  I can’t hold a candle to a friend on this site known  as “Twistedintheburg” who has over 40 thousand followers!

Day 40 Upscale Consignment

On my way back from a delicious lunch, I stumbled on Designer Days Boutique, an upscale consignment store in Squirrel Hill. I have frequented garage sales, flea markets, and thrift stores but never a consignment store that had quality and prices like Nordstroms. I love a good bargain so in I went.

Day 39-Bella Luna-Supermoon

Supermoon

Everything I Need to Know I learned from a Little Golden Book, suggest that we take time to “stargaze.”  According  Maslow’s theory,  having an appreciation of nature and beauty are characteristics of one who is reaching self –actualization.  Last night, while sitting around a bonfire, I enjoyed the Supermoon, which is a full moon closest to the earth during its' orbit. At this time, the moon is 14% bigger and 30% brighter!

Day 38- Off to NYC?

NYC is one of my favorite places to go and I had a taste of it Friday Am while walking to meet a friend for breakfast ON THE NORTHSIDE of Pittsburgh! Yes it’s a movie set for the movie Southpaw about a boxer. Everything I Need to Know I Learned from a Little Golden Book suggests that we sometime daydream  so why  not pretend for a moment?

Day 37 Past with a New Twist-Bicycle Cafe

Transform something old into a new creation
The North Park Boat House has been recently transformed into a bicycle themed bar/restaurant. Don’t worry, this  blog is not going to turn into a Trip Advisor review of places to eat. However this was another nostalgic moment because I remember being at the park boat house with my son to rent paddle boats and now it’s a “hot spot.”  As a teen, this part of the park was also reserved  for carousing  in cars trying to meet boys. Thus, this is a old place with a new twist.

Day 36-Religious Relics -St. Anthony's Chapel

Tucked away on Troy Hill in Pittsburgh, is a beautiful  chapel with over 5000 religious relics. This collection is second in number only to the Vatican.  Living here all my life, I can’t believe I never ventured to see St Anthony's Chapel. Today was the journey of the relics.

Day 35 Phipps Conservatory

Outdoor Garden

Be thankful for the beauty and life found in nature.

Everything I Need to Know I Learned from A Little Golden Book reminds  us to “savor the seasons as they roll around”.  In Maslow’s theory  appreciation and the search for beauty are part of the “esteem needs”  on the ascending pyramid that reaches  self-actualization or obtaining  peak experiences.   I observed beauty in nature and  savored the summer season by walking though Phillps Conservatory's summer flower show.

Day 34- Lawn Bowling

(Please read Day 1 if this is your first blog visit)

As an Italian, we grew up with bocce ball but I never heard of Lawn Bowling. I found out that it’s an English sport from the  13 century and you can try it for free on Thursday nights near the  north end of Frick Park (on Reynolds Street) with the local lawn bowling  club

Day 32,33 Mommy Fix-Kennywood Park

 Remember to be child like.

A Girls Day Out
Everything I Need to Know I Learned from A Little Golden Book  reminds us to “frolic.”  In Maslow’s  theory  being "child like" is a characteristic of  a person who is self actualized or reaching their personal best.  What better way to be child like than at an amusement park. This was a new challenge to be at a park with little girls.

Day 31 Randy Land-Overcomer

(On this first week of spring 2017, I thought that  I would re-post a post from 2014. It's a look back  at Randy Land and  the blog beginnings- new beginnings- Happy Spring! )

I did it! I reached a month of trying new things! Overcomer dance (listen while you read).
Peace
Part of Randy's Garden at Randy Land
It’s a celebration when you accomplish what you set out to do. What better way to end this blog month than with a visit to Randy Land which is an explosive burst of color and uniqueness.  I can’t explain it you just got to go there.  The best part  of  the visit was  Randy’s electric energy.  In Randy’s world, “Plant yourself and you will  grow many directions… you do not have to be one way, try new things, develop new things, be new things and you will help yourself and help others.”
