My blog inspiration, Everything I Need to Know I Learned From A Little Golden Book, recommends, “celebrate
your birthday” and that is just what you do every year that you’re a cancer survivor.
My mother has been a survivor for over five (5) years! Recently we attended a
carnival themed cancer survivor celebration sponsored by UPMC Passavant Cancer Center.
Reflection
It is a celebration when you see so many survivors – there were
over 400 at this event! I love the idea of looking at the glass half full and
not half empty when facing any adversity. I walked among people proudly wearing name
tags from 1 year to over 20 years of survivorship . I was excited for the man who told me, “Yay,
I have been coming to these things for over 20 years!”
As I ate dinner, I
noticed a lot of dialogue about the disease. It is great to have a safe place to talk
about your struggles, treatment, or
just to tell your story. There was a speaker
who was the Administrative Director of John
Hopkins Breast Center and also a two-time cancer survivor!
My mother and I love to play games and to win something . This evening, everyone seemed to be a a winner celebrating each year of life. (If you are looking for
a survivor celebration contact your treatment center. Also The American Cancer Society -Relay for Life , has a celebration event for each survivor category.

Spiritual Reflection
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems, and trials,
for we know that they are good for us-they help us learn to endure. And
endurance develops strength of character in use, and character strengthens or
confident expectation of salvation.
