Day 279- Potted Potter-A (Harry Potter) Whimsical Parody

I always loved reading the Harry Potter books with my son but I must admit that I have not read all 7 books.  These books are not just for kids. We all know someone who ran out at midnight to get the  first edition of each book in the series that takes readers to the   magical world at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Potted Potter is a whimsical parody that covers all 7 books in 70 minutes!  I was excited to experience this condensed comedy on the adventures in these beloved books.

Reflection

There seemed to be more adults than kids in the audience. This show appealed to both the young and mature as the comedy was layered. The first  layer was for the kids and then they kicked in something for the adults. It was like the Disney movie Shrek, where some of the donkey’s “side lines” were more for the adults.

Daniel Clarkson and Scott Hoatson were  hilarious as they used simple props and energetic 70 minute dialogue taking us on a comedic adventure. Hoatson  wanted to tell the stories with accuracy and Clarkson, who did not read all the books, wanted to wing it  (watch a version of Potted Potter here)

The pair seemed to be improvising at times. They reminded me of the comic team of  Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin. Jerry Lewis was always silly and joking with straight man Dean Martin  (I am dating myself but I loved watching old movies as a kid).

Dressed up Potter fans leaving the show with smiles
Even if you have not read all the books you will still laugh and enjoy this show because of the cleverness and comedic chemistry between these two actors. I heard a lot of laughter and saw a lot of smiles from all leaving the building. Potted Potter is great entertainment for Potter fans and those like me, who read only a few of the books and saw a few of the movies.
Someone is excited for Potted Potter

Potted Potter runs from April 27-29 at the Byham Theater. For tickets go to TrustArts.com.

Spiritual Reflection
Then our mouths were filled with laughter; out tongues sang for joy, then it was said among the nations,"The Lord had done great things for them." (Psalms 126:2)
