My blog inspiration book, Everything I Learned About Christmas, I Learned From A Little Golden Book, reminds us that Christmas should be a “time of wonder, a time like no other time of the year.” At Phipps Conservatory, Holiday Magic brings back the wonder of the season as you navigate through the 8 rooms of nature infused with lights, Christmas trees and poinsettias, as well as 5 permanent botanical gardens.

I have decided to make the winter show at the Phipps a yearly tradition. The spectacular display of nature and the brilliance of lights uplifts your spirits as you absorb beauty in every room. There are 20 decorated Christmas trees, a blanket of red poinsettias in the French Garden and over 1,800 poinsettias scattered throughout the conservatory. The Serpentine Room is a walk through a magical forest with reindeer topiaries and glistening trees. My favorite is the Victoria Room with the 18 foot Fraser fir that sparkles like a cluster of stars in the reflecting pool.

I recommend viewing the show
at night with a hot chocolate in hand as you enjoy the 65,000 LED lights inside
the Conservatory and the 62,000 square- foot illuminated outdoor Winter Light Garden. The cascade of lights makes the garden a winter wonderland.

There is so much to absorb that every year I discover something new. This year I focused on the amazing natural beauty of the yellow poinsettias.
I noticed that everyone seemed
to be smiling and in “awe” of something. Maybe it was the 19 different
varieties of poinsettias or maybe it was the huge train layout that
produced the smiles. Whatever it was, this winter show sure gave us the feeling
of wonder like a child discovering something beautiful and new! It will keep
the wonder in your Christmas Season no matter how you enjoy it.
