Day 336-Heightened Movie Experience with Rangos Giant Cinema (Carnegie Science Center) and Comfy Cinemark (North Hills)

These days thanks to streaming, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and more (not to mention the improvements in television size and technology) movie theaters have to step it up to get our attention.  More often than not I burrow at home into my favorite chair, rest my legs on the ottoman under my grandma's knitted blanket, sip my favorite beverage and peruse the smorgasbord of movies on line. The heightened movie experiences of  Rangos Giant Cinema with its larger than life screen, and Cinemark (North Hills) with its comfy recliners, dissolves my desire to stay home on movie night.

Refection
Rangos Giant Cinema's  enormous screen technology provides crisp color  bursts that is sure to uplift your mood especially on a rainy day. The theater offers  some educational films in 3D and provides a new perspective when viewing Hollywood movies.  The screen size and explosive surround sound takes you on an excursion without leaving your seat.

There are three new education films: Apollo 11: The First Steps Edition showing in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Neil Armstrong’s first steps on the Moon, and American's Musical Journey  and Backyard Wilderness  both shown in 3D.   During my recent viewing, I  hardly realized that I was learning because I was so entertained by the crisp visuals that exploded on the screen.

Morgan Freeman narrates American's Musical Journey where the 3D musical notes jump off the screen guiding your excursion from Nashville to New York as you explore the history of jazz, blues, country, soul and rock. In Backyard Wilderness, you can almost feel the tickle of the mouse’s whiskers as the  hidden world of nature in your backyard is experienced  in greater than life size.

The Hollywood and concert movies take on a new life with 45 speakers offering bold surround sound and with the 4K laser projectors that amplify the action on a screen 70 by 38 feet (see Day 277 ). Both educational and Hollywood films transform your movie night into an immersive experience.

Cinemark in the North Hills

Cinemark in the North Hills (and some other theaters) provides viewing with the comfort of home when you can’t wait for the digital streaming release of that new movie.  This theater has recliners, individual tray tables and assigned seats. With a flip of a button you can adjust your feet up and turn on the heated chair feature.  The recliners afford more  personal space so you’re not sitting on top of your neighbor.

You don’t have to rush to the show to beat a crowd to find that perfect viewing spot because assigned seats are given at purchase. I recommend getting your  ticket in advance either in person or on line because popular shows often sell out. (You can always exchange your seat or get a full refund  at the ticket counter before show time).

Cinemark in the North Hills even has a full bar and a Starbucks. You can stroll in at show time, have your favorite beverage, put up your feet and get snug with the heated chair feature. These  conveniences has prompted  this empty-nester to even venture solo to the movies.

If your going out for a movie why not get a heightened movie experience. The  technology of the Rangos Giant Theater at the Carnegie Science Center and the comfort of the Cinemark in the North Hills  “makes going to the movies great again.”
