Day 56 Banjo Night

Everything I Need to Know I Learned From a Little Golden Book directs us to  “make music a part of your life.”  In this new journey it’s time to trade in the familiar guitar sound and replace it with something different like the  banjo. What better place to do that than to go to Banjo Night, a weekly Wednesday  event at the Elks  on Pittsburgh’s North side. There is no cover charge and  this party runs from 8pm to 11pm.  

Reflection                                                         

This is the home of the Pittsburgh Banjo Club  whose members play a four string tenor banjo. When you walk in you  immediately sense that this is  a happy place and that the musicians are just having fun  playing happy music. Everyone is smiling and tapping their toes as they listen to the sounds of the 20s and 30s, polkas, ragtime and Dixieland. They even have sing a -longs. Scanning the room I saw groups of all ages. It’s as if two worlds collided, the generation gap was gone, and a gentlemen in his 80's laughed with the 20 something crowd.  

There  is even a back bar  like Cheers, "where everyone  (seems to ) know  your name and they’re always glad you came.” Take your grandparents, parents, and bring your now college son or daughter and their friends. If you don’t try this place you are truly “missing it”.
