Day 344 -Liberty Magic-Dennis Watkins: The Magic Parlour- A Sophisticated Show that Makes You Believe

My blog inspirational series of books, Everything I Need To Know I Learned From a Little Golden Book, reminds us that, “All you need is a little magic in your life.” You can get that at  Liberty Magic, Pittsburgh’s intimate venue dedicated solely to the slight of hand.  Each Liberty Magic show is a unique brew of the individual’s approach to the art and their bag of tricks.  Dennis Watkins brings The Magic Parlour, the longest running show in Chicago’s historic Palmer House Hilton Hotel, to Pittsburgh. I was excited to experience this show that is inspired by the sophistication of the 1900’s parlor magicians and rarely viewed outside of the Windy City.

Reflection
Frank Sinatra’s music filled the room before the show setting a vintage tone.  Watkins opened with one of those destroy property tricks that “magically” gets put together. This time the unique identifying factors of the dismantled object elicited my “how is that possible” response.

Watkins is a third generation magician and a story teller. He shared stories about his grandfather who fueled his passion for the art of magic. Watkins stated that his grandfather taught him to use magic to  take his audience "to the land of enchantment” and  make them "feel what it’s like to be a kid.”  Watkins did just that with skilled slight of hand card tricks, mind reading skills and even by ingesting a half  dozen razor blades. He was a skilled showman preforming a magical variety show.

His energy was high and his pace seemed perfect. He knew how to work the room by using or in some way engaging every person in the audience during the show.

The Magic Parlour was a polished show with a  continual “wow” factor. When he accurately picked a participant’s chosen word out of a 300 page book, I heard  someone in the audience say exactly what I was thinking-“this is insane.”

Watkins made you believe just like a child.  Mr. Watkins, your grandfather would have been proud.

Dennis Watkins kicks off Liberty Magic's 2019-20 Season. For tickets or  to learn more about all six magical shows go here. I can’t wait for the next amazement experience with Lee Terbosic's "In Plain Sleight" and "The Life and Death of Harry Houdini."

Spiritual Reflection
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the scared writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ (2 Timothy 3:14-15)
