Day 142 Pittsburgh Symphony POPS, "Sinatra and Beyond"/Tony Desare

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra POPS  is a great way to experience a first class symphony  orchestra with a twist. Last year, I was floored by the sound of Chris Botti’s smooth trumpet  surrounded by the full orchestra (See Day 101). This season kicked off  with “Sinatra and Beyond,” with Tony DeSare singing some Sinatra and  a lot more.  Experiencing the POPS is a great way to continue to “make music a part of (my) life” as recommended by my blog inspiration  book, “Everything I Need to Know I Learned From a Little Golden Book

Tony DeSare

Reflection
Opening the performance with the Sinatra standard, “Luck Be a Lady” combined with the strength of the Pittsburgh Symphony, was a  flash back experience of what it might have been like in the 50’s/ 60’s big band area with Frankie.  The show mixed Sinatra with some of Tony DeSare’s originals, “How I Will Say I Love You” and “New Orleans Tango”. The music seemed weighted with  brass and there was a jazz vibe especially during the  trumpet solos  of guest, Benny Benack. Jazz  is  my favorite music genre (See Day 15 ) so I was kicking back and enjoying  the orchestra with this twist.

The symphony played a  familiar run of  Henry Mancini  songs, “The Pink Panther, Moon River, and Peter Gun.”  I was swept away during Moon River by the intensity of the strings.  The music ended full circle with an eight (8) song Sinatra Medley.

Don’t miss seeing one of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra POPS shows this season and be rejuvenated by this first class symphony orchestra (Schedule).

Spiritual Reflection
[The Lord]He gives power to those who are tired and worn out; he offers strength to the weak. Even youths will become exhausted, and young men will give up. But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:29-31)
